How to Set a Default $0.00 Amount in Box 29 on a Claim

If any patient payment is collected and posted, that patient amount is reflected in box 29 of the claim. Some payers will send insurance payment to the patient if any value other than $0.00 exists in that field, even if the assignment of benefits is set to yes and box 13 has signature on file.

These are the instructions to force a default of $0.00 in box 29.

1. From the Claims tab > click to open the Claim number

2. Claim Opens > use the scroll bar to scroll to bottom of the claim

3. In box 29 >Click the"Send as $0.00" checkbox

4. At the top of the claim > Click Submit

5. Submit the claim Manually or Electronically
