How to Install and Configure the Zebra ZD420 Barcode Printer for Uprise Use
Uprise works with the Zebra ZD420d Thermal Printer (part number ZD42042-D01W101EZ) with USB connector.
203 dots per inch (DPI) is only the supported resolution for printing from Uprise. Be sure to check your model for the correct DPI standard before setting up the printer for use with Uprise.
These specific labels must be purchased: Optical Frame Direct Thermal Labels http://www.labtag.com/optical-frame-direct-thermal-labels-2-24-x-1-25-dtol-2/
- Core diameter: 1”
- Labels/Roll: 1,000
- Color: White
- Orientation: Right*
* Please be sure to check your printer's DPI resolution settings and ensure that you purchase labels orientated 'RIGHT' - incorrect product specs will prevent your printer from working with Uprise
This Zebra printer model will print frame tags from Uprise as 2D barcodes (also known as QR codes.) Any brand of hand-held barcode scanner can be used with Uprise, providing it has the capability to scan both 2D and 1D (traditional) barcodes.

General Overview
The printer should be installed on the local Windows PC (Mac support is not currently offered at this time) and you should be able to print a test page from Windows to the printer. Here is a general overview of the printer installation procedure in Windows:
Initial Setup:
Any outstanding Windows updates should be installed prior to setting up printing. These updates may affect your ability to install printer software.
A Zebra Driver (or the Zebra Setup Utility) must be installed before connecting via USB and powering on the printer.
- Install the Driver (or the Zebra Setup Utility) on your PC before connecting the printer.
- Connect the printer to the USB port on the PC
- Power on the printer
- The printer should now be available for use and you should be able to print a test page from Windows
1. Ensure Printer is NOT CONNECTED to your PC
2. Download and install the required Zebra drivers. This software is available for free from the following link:
5. Run the .exe as an administrator by right clicking the file > Run as Administrator
6. Install the Driver: Click Next and leave all DEFAULTS
7. At the END of install > Un-Check "Run the printer installation wizard" and "View release notes" > Only select Configure System > Finish

- If you accidentally left this checked you can just cancel / close out of the printer installation wizard when it opens.
8. Load labels and connect the printer to the USB port on the PC
Once you have installed the driver:
- Load the labels into the printer and then turn the printer on.
- Connect printer to the PC with the USB cable.

Ensure that you have selected the Zebra device as your PC's primary printer.
10. Set Printer Options
On the Options tab under Settings change the Speed to 4 and the Darkness to 15. Then under Size change the Width to 2.00 and the Height to 1.00. Then click Apply and OK.
11. Run a Print Test Page
Once these changes have been made you should be able to print a test page from Windows:
Windows 10
Select the Start button > Settings > Services > Printers & Scanners > select the printer > Manage > select Print a test page
If you are unable to print a test page from Windows at this point please contact Zebra support and explain you are unable to print a test page from Windows:
